Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted at Cumberland Courthouse on 1 July 1861 in Company D, and was promoted almost immediately to Corporal (6 July) and then Lieutenant (11 July). He was slightly wounded in action at Kernstown on 23 March 1862, and was elected Captain of his Company on 21 April 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Captain Page commanded the remains of the regiment and was in charge of the skirmishers of the Brigade on 17 September, and eventually was the senior officer of the Brigade and assigned to command it. He was seriously wounded in action at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
He had his right leg amputated as a result of his wound, and he resigned from the service on 11 December 1862.
