Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 20 year old farmer on his parents' place at West Gardiner, ME. He enlisted and mustered as a Private in Company D, 7th Maine Infantry on 20 December 1861 (or 13 August 1862).

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 13 April 1863.

After the War

In 1870 he was a laborer in Belfast, ME. By 1900 he was a farmer there.
