Before Sharpsburg

An 1859 graduate of VMI, he enlisted as Captain of Company D, 28th Virginia Infantry on 20 May 1861. He was wounded in action and captured at Williamsburg, and held at Fort Delaware, until exchanged 5 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He commanded the regiment as senior officer present in Maryland.

The rest of the War

He was on "detached duty" in early 1863 and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the regiment on 17 October 1863. He was captured at Sayler's Creek (April 1865) and held at Johnson's Island, Ohio until 25 July 1865.

After the War

He was a farmer, and died at the Soldier's Home in Richmond in 1911.
