Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 28, a mason in Stoughton when commissioned in June 1861. He was in Company I. He was wounded 9 August 1862 near Cedar Mountain.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The remainder of the War:
He was wounded again, mortally, in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December. He died of wounds 20 December 1862.
