Age 24, a builder in Gloucester on enlistment as First Sergeant in June 1861. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant 3 May 1862. He was in Company K.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

Promoted First Lieutenant 18 September 1862. Wounded again in action at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December. Promoted Captain to date from 1 September 1862. Wounded at Gettysburg on 1 July 1863. Mustered out at end of term of service 8 July 1864.
