Before the Antietam Campaign:
Age 18, a laborer in Shrewsbury on enlistment in July 1861 in Company K, 13th Massachusetts Infantry. Appointed Corporal (date?).

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Discharged to enlist in the Regular Army in November 1862. Enlisted 8 November 1862 as Private in Company C, 18th US Infantry. Missing in action 20 September 1863 at Chickamauga, GA. No further record.
