Before the Antietam Campaign: "This company of volunteers, calling themselves the Three Creeks Rifles, was organized at Three Creeks, Union County, Arkansas, June 20, 1861, by Captain John W. Reedy. The company was composed of men from Union county and neighboring Columbia county, Arkansas. It traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, where it was assigned to the Third Regiment, Arkansas Volunteers, as Company G, July 1861." In the Antietam Campaign: He commanded the Regiment at Sharpsburg as the senior officer present. The remainder of the War: Promoted to Major 19 January 1863, he was at Gettysburg, and was killed in action at Chickamauga (19-20 September 1863).
