Before Sharpsburg

From Meriwether County, GA, he enrolled as 3rd Lieutenant of Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant on 2 September 1862.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Captain on 7 August 1863 and was wounded by a gunshot to his hip and captured at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864. He was treated at a US Army field hospital in Winchester to 15 October and at the post hospital at Point Lookout, MD, then in the Old Capitol Prison in Washington, DC from 3 November to 16 December 1864, when he was transferred to Fort Delaware. He was released on 17 June 1865 after taking an oath of allegiance.

After the War

In 1870 he was a grocer in Newnan in Coweta County, GA. In 188 he was a farmer in Coweta, but by 1900 he was making shoes in Leeds, Jefferson County, AL.
