Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old on his mother's farm near Rocky Mount in Meriwether County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the right arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862, about 2 weeks after his 18th birthday.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated near the shoulder and he was furloughed home. He applied for retirement and was discharged for disability in February 1865.

After the War

By 1910 he was retired and living in Decatur, Dekalb County, GA.
