In 1860 he was a 24 year old physician in Griffin in Spalding County, GA, and lived in his lawyer father Andrew's home. He enrolled as Captain Company C, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 at Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was promoted to Major on the field at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was furloughed for 60 days on 17 October and resigned due to disability on 13 December 1862.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1910 he was a practicing physician in Griffin, GA.
