Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm hand on his parent's place at Thomaston in Upson County, GA. He enlisted in Griffin, GA on 8 July 1861 as 2nd Corporal of Company D, 13th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

In 1880 he was a farmer in Clayton County, GA but by 1900 was farming in DeKalb County. In 1910 he had retired and was living in Atlanta with his youngest child Georgia and her family, and he was with eldest Mollie and her family back in DeKalb County by 1920.
