Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm boy on his parent's place in Early County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company G, 13th Georgia Infantry in May 1862 in Savannah, GA.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was in a Richmond, VA hospital by 21 November and back to duty on 12 December 1862. He was wounded again, by a gunshot to his neck, and was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 5 July 1863. He was admitted to a US Army hospital in Frederick,, MD on 6 July and sent on to West's Buildings Hospital in Baltimore on 8 August. He was probably paroled there and from 24 August to 7 September 1863 was in CS hospitals in Petersburg and Farmville, VA. He was wounded yet again at Harpers Ferry, VA on 22 September 1864, and was captured in a Macon, GA hospital in April 1865.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1880 he was a farmer near Blakely in Early County.
