In 1860 he was an unmarried 22 year old farm worker near Dawson in Terrell County, GA, living with 6 younger siblings and mother, next door to his older sister Susan and her family. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His sister Susan Davis applied for his final pay in December 1862.
