In 1860 he was a 16 year old on his parent's farm at Dawson in Terrell County, GA. He enlisted as a Private in Company H, 13th Georgia Infantry on 8 July 1861 in Griffin, GA.

On the Campaign

He was appointed 3rd Sergeant on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to 2nd Sergeant in 1863 and captured at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864. He was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD until paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, VA for exchange on 15 March 1865. He was received at James River, VA on 19 March with no later military record.
