Before the Antietam Campaign: From Union County, he enlisted as Private on 1 May 1861 at age 19 in Company B, 15th NC Infantry. In the Antietam Campaign: Captured at Boonsboro, MD on 16 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Confined at Fort Delaware, DE, and transferred (paroled?) about 2 October at Aiken's Landing, VA. Exchanged on 10 November, and returned to duty. Killed in action on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA.
