Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Union County, he enlisted as Private on 1 May 1861 at age 19 in Company B, 15th NC Infantry.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Captured at Boonsboro, MD on 16 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Confined at Fort Delaware, DE, and transferred (paroled?) about 2 October at Aiken's Landing, VA. Exchanged on 10 November, and returned to duty. Killed in action on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA.

Service data from Moore1, with POW details from a Company B Roster compiled by Julie Hampton Ganis, who has him as McCrory. Some genealogists spell it McRory.
