Before the Antietam Campaign: Mustered as First Lieutenant, Company G of the 61st NY Infantry on 18 October 1861, age 24. The remainder of the War: Promoted Captain, Company B on 22 September 1862. Wounded in action 2 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. Appointed Major on 15 July 1864, but not mustered at that rank. Mustered out 8 October 1864 near Petersburg, VA.
