He was age 31 when he enlisted in Company K, 57th NY Infantry in August 1861 in Poughkeepsie.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Died of wounds on 29 September 1862 at Frederick, MD.
