Before the Antietam Campaign: He enlisted as 3rd Sergeant, Company A, 6th Georgia Infantry on 22 April 1861. Wounded at Seven Pines, Virginia May 31, 1862. Elected 2nd Lieutenant July 4, 1862; 1st Lieutenant September 1862. In the Antietam Campaign: He succeeded to command of the Regiment on 17 September at Sharpsburg after all of his senior officers had been killed or wounded. The remainder of the War: He was Captain of Company A after Capt. Arnold was promoted out of the Company. He was appointed Captain and Inspector General of Colquitt's Brigade July 1, 1864. He was promoted to Major of the 6th in January 1865. After the War: He was probably in Baldwin County, Georgia in 1867.
