Before the Antietam Campaign:
In January 1861 he enlisted and was eventually Sergeant Major (poss. CS Marines?). In Spring 1862 his militia company became Commpany D, 8th Florida Infantry, Baya as Captain.
In the Antietam Campaign:
He was in command of the Regiment on the Maryland Campaign as senior officer present after LCol Coppens and senior Captain Waller were killed..
The remainder of the War:
He was wounded and captured at Fredericksburg. After release in early 1863 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, fought at Gettysburg, and was again wounded in action at Bristoe Station and at the Weldon Railroad. He was captured at Saylers Creek in April 1865 and released in July.
