Before the Antietam Campaign: He enlisted 21 April 1861 in Company F, 21st Virginia Infantry. In the Antietam Campaign: One of the three members of Company F on the Campaign. The remainder of the War: Promoted 2nd Sergeant in April 1863 and First Sergeant in December 1863. Appointed Adjutant of the Regiment on 12 September 1864.
