Before Sharpsburg

A farmer on his mother's Westend Plantation near Trevilians, VA, he enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant of Company C, 38th Battalion Virginia Heavy Artillery on 15 June 1861 and was commissioned Captain of the 2nd Company, Richmond Howitzers on 22 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He commanded the battery on the Maryland Campaign.

The rest of the War

He was appointed Major about January 1863, and was mortally wounded at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 10 May 1864. He died of wounds on 13 May.
