Before Antietam

He had service in the Mexican War (1847-48) as Sergeant in Company F, 2nd Pennsylvania Volunteers. On 10 August 1861, by then age 47, from Philadelphia, he enrolled and mustered as Captain, Company C, 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry on in Philadelphia.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
