An undertaker and sometimes policeman, he had served in Company D, 71st New York State Militia before the War. He mustered into Federal service as Captain of Company K, 59th New York Infantry on 30 October 1861.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He died of wounds on 19 October 1862.
