Before the Antietam Campaign: He enlisted at age 44 in New York City, and mustered in as Private, Oompany F, 59th New York Infantry on 3 October 1861. He transferred to Company C on 1 November. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: He was discharged for disability in Deccember 1862 in Washington, DC.
