He was elected Captain of the battery in May 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He lost his command when the two Fluvanna Batteries were consolidated into one in October 1862.

After the War:
In 1880 he was a farmer living in Fork Union, Fluvanna County. He was "an influential Mason and a prominent citizen".
