Before the Antietam Campaign: He had studied at the Universities of Virginia and Maryland before the War. In the Antietam Campaign: Killed "instantly" in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Originally buried in "Mrs. Lucker’s barn field near an old well; [graves] have been plowed over." His body later retrieved by his father, Dr. Ezekiel Starke Talley.
