He was in Company A. Age 19 on enlistment in May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Promoted First Sergeant some time after Sharpsburg, and appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 16 May 1864. He served with his unit to the end of the War.
