Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted in Rochester,and mustered in as Corporal, Company G, 108th New York Infantry on 4 August 1862, the day before his 19th birthday.

The remainder of the War:
He was captured in action on 25 August 1864 at Ream's Station, VA. He was returned to ranks (Private), date unknown. He escaped but was recaptured in January 1865, and escaped a second time in May 1865 at Asheville, NC. He mustered out of service 18 June 1865 at Camp Chase in Columbus, OH.

After the War:
He worked for the New York Central Railroad.
