Probably from the town of Perinton, Monroe County, New York, he enlisted at age 22 and mustered as Private, Company B, 108th New York Infantry on 21 July 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Discharged for disability 21 February 1863 at Falmouth, VA.

After the War:
He was listed as a carriage maker in 1877 and 1892 Rochester city directories.
