Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted in Bochester and mustered in as Private, Company G, 108th New York Infantry on 25 July 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was promoted Corporal on 1 March 1863 and Sergeant on 1 January 1865. He mustered out with the Company on 28 May 1865 at Bailey's Crossroads, VA.

After the War:
He moved from Rochester, NY to Michigan in 1870, then in 1885 to Cheyenne (later part of Deuel) County, Nebraska. He homesteaded, farmed and ranched there.
