Before the Antietam Campaign:
A harness-maker before the War, he enlisted as Sergeant in Company F, 108th New York Infantry in July 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
He was killed in action on 3 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. Buried originally on the battlefield, reinterred in Churchville, NY.
