From New Haven. Mustered as 2nd Lieutenant, Company G, 14th Connecticut Infantry on 20 August 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.Promoted First Lieutenant on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Resigned 23 January 1863. Appointed Captain in Fe3bruary, but did not muster at that rank.
