From Waterbury. He had served as First Lieutenant, Company D, First Connecticut Infantry. He mustered in as Captain, Company C, 14th Connecticut Infantry in August 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Wounded in action 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA and transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps in September 1863.
