Originally enrolled as 2nd Lieutenant, Company A (later renamed to B) in May 1861. Promoted Captain in November 1861 and to Lieutenant Colonel of the Regiment on 30 May 1862. He was wounded 31 May at Seven Pines, VA.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was promoted to Colonel of the 6th Alabama Infantry on 7 May 1863. He was again wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and at the Wilderness, VA in May 1864. He retired from the Service on 11 March 1865.
After the War
He moved to Savannah, GA in 1871 and to Eufala, AL in 1878, and was in the cotton business and a farmer.
