He was in Company K, and had been wounded through the left arm at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg - in the right hand, necessitating amputation of four fingers.

The remainder of the War:
Detailed Enrolling Officer in Sumter County, Ga. in 1863. Appointed 1st Sergeant October 27, 1864; Surrendered, Appomattox, Va. April 9, 1865.
