Before the Antietam Campaign:
He was living in Indian Springs and listed at 40 years old in the 1860 Federal Census. He enlisted as Private in Company D, 6th Georgia Infantry on 27 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was mortally wounded in the left hip and captured in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Admitted to US Army General Hospital #5, at Frederick, Maryland October 4, 1862, and died there October 9, 1862.
