Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents, 2 brothers, and 75 slaves on their plantation near Marion in Twiggs County, GA. He enlisted in Atlanta, GA on 27 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company I, 6th Georgia Infantry. He was appointed to the color guard on 10 August 1862.
On the Campaign
He was noted by Brigadier General Colquitt for gallantry in Maryland as a member of the colorguard, and was wounded by a gunshot to his chest (or thigh) and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in the US Army hospital at Germantown (Philadelphia), PA from 1 October to 28 November, then held at Fort Delaware to 16 December, when he was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Petersburg, VA on 19 December, and returned to duty on 7 January 1863. He was promoted to 2nd Sergeant by February 1863 and was First Sergeant when he was surrendered and paroled at Greensboro, NC on 1 May 1865.
After the War
In 1870 he was a farmer near Gordon in Twiggs County, GA. He probably died between 1875 and 1880.

He married Evaline C Breazeal (1848-1938) in 1874. His brother George married her sister Ella Virginia, also in 1874. Evaline lived with Ella and George to at least 1900.
William's brothers George R. and John Thomas Glover were also in Company I of the 6th Infantry.
