Before the Antietam Campaign:
A lawyer in Lexington, GA before the War, he was enrolled as the original Captain of Company K, 6th Georgia Infantry on 28 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Elected Colonel September 17, 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Killed at Ft. Fisher, Virginia [sic] on 13 January 1865 - "accidentally killed by a random shot from one of the enemy’s gun-boats". Ft. Fisher was in the defenses of Wilmington, NC.
