In the Antietam Campaign:
He was captured in action, probably on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
He was imprisoned at Camp Chase, OH and took the Oath of Allegiance to the US on 7 May 1863. He was living in Carroll County, MD in 1863.
