He enlisted in Company D, 7th Virginia Infantry on 10 March 1862 at Giles Courthouse.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded and captured in action on 14 September 1862 on South Mountain.

The remainder of the War:
At home ill when war ended. Paroled 6/14/65 at Charleston, WV.

After the War:
Moved to Princeton, WV in 1870 and wasdeputy clerk of the court. To Hinton, WV in 1875. Mayor of Hinton and had long service as County clerk. Moved to California in 1902. Member, Camp #770, U.C.V., Los Angeles (Commander).
