Before the Antietam Campaign:
He enlisted in Company D, 7th Virginia Infantry on 10 March 1862 at Giles Courthouse. Wounded at Williamsburg, VA on 5 May 1862 and at Frayser's Farm on 30 June.

The remainder of the War:
Wounded at Gettysburg, VA on 3 July 1863. Last official entry says he was hospitalized and furloughed in June 1864.
