He was wounded and captured in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Held at Fort Delaware until exchanged on 10 November. Wounded in the hip at Bristoe Station, VA on 14 October 1863. Hospitalized at Richmond, VA where he died of wounds on 27 October 1863.
