From Lenoir County, age 21, he enlisted on 6 May 1862 in Company C, 27th North Carolina Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hand in action on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He returned to his Company, but was listed as a deserter about two years later on 8 December 1864.
