Service summary:
Enlisted as a Private in Co. G, 2nd Georgia Infantry Regiment Apr 16, 1861;
Discharged Oct 14, 1861.

Elected Major of the 35th Georgia Infantry Regiment Oct 14, 1861;
Lieutenant Colonel June 1, 1862;
Colonel Nov 1, 1862.

He was given command of the Regiment at or after 2nd Manassas as Col Thomas took over Pettigrew's Brigade.

In the Antietam Campaign:
The Regiment remained at Harpers Ferry on September 17th following the surrender to guard the stores and parole Federal prisoners. Official Records to not specifiy who the 35th's Commander was on the campaign, but it was most likely LCol Holt.
