Before the Antietam Campaign:
A farmer before the War, he enblisted in Company D on 27 April 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was wounded in the shoulder in action on 17 September 1862.

The remainder of the War:
Wounded in the groin at Bristoe Station, VA on 14 October 1863. Hospitalized at Danville, VA about 8 August 1864 with a gunshot wound of the leg (place and date of wound not reported). Present or accounted for through March 15, 1865. Pension records show he was also wounded at Manssas Gap, VA on an unspecifed date.
