He enlisted in Company F on 16 May 1861.

In the Antietam Campaign:
Reported as absent without leave on 17 September 1862, but was more probably wounded and captured at Sharpsburg.

The remainder of the War:
Listed as a deserter in reports for November-December 1863. Returned to duty prior to 6 May 1864 when he was wounded in action at the Wilderness, VA.
