Before the Antietam Campaign:
From Moore County, he enlisted in Company C, 35th North Carolina Infantry on 12 September 1861.

The remainder of the War:
[He] died at the General Hospital in Wilmington, March 25th, 1863, aged 24 years. He was in the fight at Newbern, in several battles below Richmond, at Sharpsburg and Fredericksburg and various other skirmishes.
