From Muscoda, he enlisted in Company C, 2nd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861. He was wounded at Gainesville, VA in August 1862.

In the Antietam Campaign:
He was again wounded, in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

After the War:
He was in Howard, Iowa in the 1900 US Federal Census.
