Before the Antietam Campaign: From New London, he enlisted in Company E, 2nd Wisconsin Infantry on 18 May 1861. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded in the eye in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: Captured in action at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863 and died while a prisoner on 7 December 1863 in Richmond, VA.
