Before the Antietam Campaign: From Kingston, he enlisted in Company A, 6th Wisconsin Infantry on 10 May 1861. In the Antietam Campaign: He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862. The remainder of the War: He was again wounded in action, at Gettysburg, PA and the Weldon Railroad, VA. He was killed at Hatcher's Run, VA on 6 February 1865.
